Share Radio, the recently launched radio station dedicated to sharing ideas about money in a style accessible to people from all walks of life, has signed an exclusive agreement with The Open University Business School (OUBS)to launch a radio broadcast and audio podcast version of their very successful ‘Managing My Money’ course. Broadcasting is expected to start by the end of June, and it will be possible for new starters to join the eight week course every two to three weeks.

Managing My Money was developed by the pioneering Centre of Excellence for research in the development of personal financial capabilities at OUBS, the True Potential Centre for the Public Understanding of Finance, (True Potential PUFin).  It covers all essential aspects of money, including financial planning, income, benefits and taxation, budgeting and expenditure, debt and borrowing, savings and investment, housing, pensions and insurance. The online course has already attracted over 38,000 registrants, and is suitable for all ages from secondary school students to pensioners.

Each broadcast weekly segment will conclude with a short online test, with a final more comprehensive test at completion, which will be confirmed by a statement of participation. The broadcast course will be free of charge, as is The Open University Business School course. Those interested should register on our website www.shareradio.co.uk so that we are able to inform them as soon as the broadcast version becomes available.

Share Radio regards this agreement as a key part of its vision to help people throughout the United Kingdom to be more confident in handling money. It hopes to work with employers’ organisations and with schools to build use of the course across the country.

Managing Director Gavin Oldham said: “we are delighted to be working with The Open University Business School to broadcast ‘Managing My Money’. Share Radio has already established a strong reputation for accessible and helpful guidance on money matters, and this will be a strong basis for taking forward financial capability in the United Kingdom. We hope people will enjoy and benefit from the course when we launch later this year.”

Director of the True Potential Centre for the Public Understanding of Finance, and the academic lead on the course, Martin Upton said:  “The interest we’ve seen in our Managing My Money course shows just how seriously people take their personal finances.  With Share Radio we have a common goal to use research and the delivery of free and accessible education to provide individuals with the tools to make sound financial decisions. We know there is still a real demand for information and advice on how to manage your money, and this exciting new partnership will help our course serve a whole new audience.
