Matt Dickson

Profile

Matt is a Reader in Public Policy at the University of Bath’s Institute for Policy Research. He gained his PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick in 2009 and held research fellowships at the University of Bristol and University College Dublin before joining Bath as a Research Fellow in 2012.

Matt’s research focuses on issues relating to the labour market and the economics of education, with particular interest in social mobility, and the impact of education on subsequent outcomes in life. His research has been published in major academic journals and he has co-authored policy reports for the Department for Education and the Low Pay Commission, as well as acting as an advisor to the DfE, HMT, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Cabinet Office. Matt’s work has been covered by all of the major UK newspapers and news websites, and he has previously made appearances on Channel 4 News, ITV News, BBC Radio 4, and BBC Radio 5Live.

In Bath, Matt leads the IPR’s research programme on widening participation in higher education as well as contributing to research in other policy areas.
