What are the consequences for Yahoo after its latest hacking revelations?
Internet giant Yahoo has revealed more than one billion user accounts may be affected by a hacking attack. This marks the biggest cyber hack to date, with the attack dating back to 2013. It’s separate from a data loss in 2014 when 500 million accounts were accessed. The news comes at a critical juncture for Yahoo, who is trying to sell its core businesses to the telecoms and media company Verizon. Matt Cox spoke to Peter Church, Counsel specialising in data privacy at law firm Linklaters, to find out the consequences.

Applications from foreign workers who want to work in the UK tech industry have increased tenfold over the last year. It's after the government decided to relax the rules, allowing groups of coders to apply as a group rather than run the risk of being rejected individually. Tech City UK, the organisation that processes the visa applications, says applications had spiked since the Brexit referendum. James Brydges asked Oliver Smith, tech reporter at the Memo, and Megan Caywood, Chief Platform Officer at Starling bank, about what had been driving the demand.

Some analysts have suggested the favoured "castle approach", the act of building up security measures to stop threats from getting in from the outside, is outdated because most breaches occur from within. Scottish cyber security software specialist ZoneFox is one company using machine-learning to monitor internal business computer activity and flag up threats. A number of companies which provide VPN's (Virtual Private Networks), or encryption services, are reporting a growth in the number of UK customers. One catalyst for this increased interest is the Investigatory Powers Bill. This will oblige internet providers to record which websites and services their user’s devices connect to. As a result, some UK based users are choosing to use tech companies which can hide their browsing habits. Matt Cox has been hearing more from tech consultant, Chris Green.

The longer-term future for the advertising industry is very different, as we spend much of our time on mobiles, tablets and watching streamed content. Already advertisers are using every kind of hi-tech digital tool to plan and measure their campaigns to get their messages to customers. But the changes are said to have caused a growing gulf between the old-school creatives who come up with the campaigns and the tech people who are needed to deliver the ads. RadiumOne has launched a new division to explicitly deal with this issue, and Share Radio spoke with the European MD of the company, Craig Tuck, who joined us to talk about the future of advertising.
