British telecoms regulator Ofcom is preparing to go to the European Commission to try to force BT to legally separate its networks division Openreach. It comes after months of talks failed to deliver a voluntary agreement. Dave Millett is the Founder and Managing Director of telecoms broker Equinox, and he joined Share Radio Breakfast to discuss the latest developments.

Morning Money: TalkTalk slapped with record fine
Telecoms group TalkTalk has been slapped with a record £400,000 fine by the Information Commissioner’s Office because of a cyber attack last year. The ICO found that “security failings” allowed a cyber attacker to access customer data “with ease”. To discuss the implications for TalkTalk, Share Radio was joined by Dave Millett, Founder and Managing Director of telecoms broker Equinox.

Dave Millett, Founder and Managing Director of telecoms broker, Equinox, talks about Ofcom’s report ruling on whether BT can keep its Openreach broadband arm. BT seems to have escaped the immediate threat of selling off its wholesale arm, but it faces a stricter regulatory straitjacket under wide-ranging proposals which would allow other operators to lay fibre optic lines alongside its network. Dave discusses the decision.
