Share Politics: MPs back Article 50, Govt unveils White Paper
The Share Radio Evening Show
The Ayes had it - last night MPs backed the Government's Article 50 bill. A few more Parliamentary hurdles remain - not least the House of Lords - but with 498 votes in favour and only 114 dissenting, Theresa May is well on the way to triggering Brexit.
But if May hoped the vote would pacify resistance in the Commons, the bashing of her Brexit Tsar this afternoon proved otherwise. David Davis, Minister for Exiting the European Union, unveiled the Government's White Paper on Brexit, putting meat on the bones of the Prime Minister's negotiating strategy.
However, opposition MPs complained they weren't given enough time to study the document, with the paper published minutes before Davis stepped up to the dispatch box.
For more on the Brexit bill and White Paper, Share Radio's Simon Rose was joined by Tom Brake MP, spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats on Foreign Affairs. Simon also spoke to political commentator Sunny Hundal on why Merkel - and not Trump - is the free world's only hope.
