A former Tory leader's come under fire for saying Theresa May would show the same resolve to defend Gibraltar as Margaret Thatcher did over the Falklands. Lord Howard was speaking after the EU suggested Spain will be able to veto future deals between the Union and the UK. Theresa May's heading to Jordan and Saudi Arabia for talks about stepping up the fight against Islamic State. The prime minister will pledge more UK support for airstrikes and new counter-terrorism measures during her visit. The approach of the remaining 27 EU member states towards Brexit negotiations will be set out later. European Council President Donald Tusk will lay out his proposals. The UK government wants a new free trade deal to be discussed alongside any possible divorce bill. But this has been rejected by the German chancellor. What basic rights do gig economy workers have?
Recently we had another case testing the rights of gig economy workers. Self-employed cycle courier Andrew Boxer took the firm Excel to an employment tribunal arguing that he was a "worker" as defined by the Employment Rights Act - therefore, should get basic rights including holiday pay and the national minimum wage. His claim was backed by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain and the employment tribunal agreed with him. To find out what rulings such as this will mean for the gig economy Georgie Frost was joined by Kevin Charles, Director of Crosslands Employment Solicitors.
