This Is Money: What's happening to the economy, mortgage deals and the pound?
It has been an incredibly turbulent week for the UK economy as the Bank of England stepped in to protect pension funds, the pound hit a record low against the dollar before rebounding and lenders pulled mortgage deals to re-price them at far higher rates. Georgie Frost, Simon Lambert and Lee Boyce tackle what has been a truly remarkable one in the world of personal finance with a message of: don't panic. So, is the UK economy in crisis… again? How much is the Chancellor's 'mini' Budget to blame? And what can the Government do now? Simon gives an economics 101 on why the pound fell and why the Bank of England stepped in, seemingly with a u-turn on plans for quantitative tightening. What is happening to mortgages? With lenders pulling deals and replacing them with higher rates, how will that impact first-time buyers, those looking to remortgage and the property market in general? Will base rate continue to head higher and what does that mean? And a chink of light for savers: this week, NS&I boosted Premium Bonds, while savings rates continue to race higher.

Motley Fool Money: Apple - "All of this has happened before." (28/9)
If what's happening today with Apple seems familiar, it should. Jim Gillies discusses reports that lower demand for the iPhone 14 is causing Apple to tell their suppliers there's no need to ramp up production, how history is an excellent guide on what today's short-term drop in Apple's stock means for long-term investors, and why now is the time to invest (even if it doesn't feel great). Also, ten minutes in, Ricky Mulvey talks with best-selling author Blake Crouch about gene modification, and a future that may be closer than most people imagine. Motley Fool Money: Morgan Housel on Inflation, Incentives, and Investing through Bear Markets (24/3)
“No one's success is proven until they've survived a calamity.” You can’t join the NBA with a few good shots, but you can join the ranks of “great” investors. Luck and skill are much harder to separate in the financial world and making that distinction can take a few decades. Chris Hill talked with best-selling author Morgan Housel in front of a live audience about why inflation is so personal and variable, Elon Musk’s best product (hint: it’s not a car), the power of incentives, the secret to 99% of Warren Buffet’s success, and investing through bear markets. Companies mentioned: BRK.A, BRK.B, HOOD, TSLA. Host - Chris Hill; Guest - Morgan Housel

The Hypnotist: Past, Present and Future without Fear
Fear of medical interventions is often caused by imagining graphic and disturbing images of the future which heighten anxiety: this may also extend to other walks of life. This episode uses the 'rewind technique' to encourage thinking about the future as opposed to imagining undesirable things. While medical treatment is rarely enjoyable, it can be associated with positive thoughts, giving the brain the opportunity to go for a better alternative. How to combat fear of the unknown, of walking into darkness? - Think positive and constructive thoughts.

The Financial Outlook for Personal Investors: What should investors do in these markets?
Russ Mould of A J Bell is slightly puzzled by some of the market reaction to the UK mini-budget, given how little debt, relatively speaking, is being added to the whole, though realising how poorly it was presenting. He thinks investors should get rid of anything causing discomfort in their portfolios as that discomfort could get much greater. He offers advice on the sort of stocks investors should be holding and, for reasons of diversification, wonders if short-term bonds might be worthwhile. But if there's a big shakedown, he says, then bargains will appear.
