The Bigger Picture: Should MPs continue to police themselves and looking ahead to the local elections
Political commentator Mike Indian looks at the continuing macho culture of Parliament and the recent behaviour of some MPs and asks whether there's a need for a robust external body to police our elected politicians. He looks ahead to next week's local elections and what they might mean for national politics and considers in detail what might happen in Northern Ireland, where Sinn Fein are expected to do well. And he also considers whether there might be a General Election earlier than expected.

The Bigger Picture: Will China & the US go to war, could the Sahara solve our energy problems & Partygate
Professor Tim Evans of Middlesex University considers an article by ex-Australian PM Kevin Rudd about how war between China and the United States might be avoided. He looks at an apparently feasible project to transmit energy over 2,000 miles from Morocco to the United Kingdom. And he gives his thoughts on Partygate, wondering where the impressive politicians are we need in such difficult times.

The Business of Film: The Lost City, The Northman & Operation Mincemeat
James Cameron-Wilson looks at the latest UK box office, with adventure-comedy 'The Lost City', starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum & Brad Pitt, the new #1. Highly-acclaimed 'The Northman' is #3 but, while visually impressive, James found it hard to digest and unintentionally funny at times. His film of the week is Operation Mincemeat, the WW2 true story, opening at #5, directed by John Madden and with a starry cast.

Gadgets & Gizmos: The Mona Lisa of NFTs, art's blackest black and electric chopsticks
Share Radio's tech whizz Steve Caplin discusses trying – unsuccessfully – to sell the Non-Fungible Token of the first ever tweet. Anish Kapoor has upset other artists by cornering the market in Vantablack, you'll be able to watch movies in driverless cars, but not use your phone, there's an appealing small hand-held game console – sold out until next year, electric chopsticks to make food taste saltier and a bizarre App-controlled charging cable with a smart display.

The Financial Outlook for Personal Investors: Investing for an inflationary environment
Victoria Scholar of Interactive Investor looks at the latest inflation numbers, warning that further rises are now inevitable. She looks at the results of Tesco, Asos and Easyjet and how they are affected by so many costs soaring. She discusses how investors can navigate the inflationary environment, pointing out that with cash giving such a negligible return, it's not a time to be uninvested. Investors should think about sectors such as banks, oil & gas and commodities and about companies that are price-givers rather than price-takers.

The Business of Film: Fantastic Beasts 3, The Outfit & Nosferatu's centenary
'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore' enters the UK b.o. chart at #1, the 3rd highest opening of the year. James Cameron-Wilson found it long, slow and lacking magic, though he enjoyed Dreamworks' 'The Bad Guys' at #3. 'The Outfit' with Mark Rylance at #7 has been well reviewed but is not extensively released. James strongly recommends F.W. Murnau's massively influential 1922 vampire classic 'Nosferatu' out on an extras-laden Blu-Ray but also coming to cinemas and available online from Eureka.

Gadgets & Gizmos: Police stop a driverless car, art with smells, cloning dead pets & tech bike pedals
Share Radio's technology editor Steve Caplin talks to Simon Rose about the San Francisco police's surprise at stopping a car without headlights – or a driver! There's also a way to trap smoke-stack CO2, a Rubens painting with accompanying smells, a solution to cat allergy, cloning dead pets, the most popular social media app that aims to get real, wearable air conditioning and crowd-funded illuminated bike pedals that Steve reckons are worth every cyclist looking at.

The Bigger Picture: Partygate and the future of the PM & Chancellor, UK local elections & Ukraine
Political commentator Mike Indian reflects on the consequences of the two most senior members of the government breaking laws that they helped to implement and wonders how it might affect the forthcoming local elections. If they go badly, will the PM have to go and who could replace him? With no more than 750 days until a General Election, he assesses the two main parties' electoral prospects. And he looks at the situation in Ukraine, considering the responsibility of the West for doing nothing when Putin annexed Crimea. He feels that, hard though it may be, the West must do more than it is already doing to help Ukraine.

The Bigger Picture: Russia's "business school" failings, statecraft and Covid-19 & Channel 4
Professor Tim Evans of Middlesex University looks at Russia's failures in Ukraine from a business school angle, regarding it as an mid-20th century state with a mid-20th government. He reflects upon some of the lessons that can be learned about governance and statecraft from the Covid pandemic. And he considers the potential privatisation of Channel 4, hoping that it can somehow once more be a disruptive channel for thinkers.
